Living with Multiple Sclerosis

My mother went for a spinal tap in 1999 and when she came home she was complaining about a headache, so she went back to the hospital and come to find out she was leaking her spinal fluid, so they corrected that. Then she was having problems with her right leg she was getting numb, blurrred vision. So she went to another doctor and they did mri’s and they keep finding the white blood cells on her brain, that is one of the big things they test for when diagnosing for MS

Then I believe from 1999-2004 she was doing ok but she still had a limp to her walk, so during all of the years she was never introduced to a shot or any type of medicine except for neurontin, benzo’s, opiods. So there it has prevented a problem not only does she have MS but now she is addicted to medications. So throughout 2004-2006 she experienced from 2004-2005 just the limp in her walk. Now it is April of 2007 and she is using a walker to walk around or she holds on to something, she is extremely depressed, she is only 44 years old. But to tell you the truth, my neighbor now he has MS and he is only in his late 20’s. He walks with a cane and adv me that he takes the shot and also some type of medicine that helps him walk. So right now she is in the care of my Aunt, but being only me and my brother, it is my responsibility to take care of my mother, being that she did take care of me and I believe that me and my daughter which she is only two and my mother loves her to death will brighten her spirits. Because right now she is depressed and alot of it has to do with the medication (Zoma). This has made her life miserable, so she now has her medication monitored. Thats terrible this women went from working at a hospital as a nurse and a business office supervisor to retirring, so she got her disability and now she is doing better, making herself get up without her walker and just walking slow and holding on to something. So in a few weeks she will be with me and I hope that God blesses my family to make her strong so she can be on her own again.

Just think it hits you so fast. One day you are walking the next day, you can’t. MS is a scary disease, it’s like she goes through spells. I have faith in her she will make it through this, meaning the walking situation but the medications which she needs and she will probably continue with.
